Breeding or beef production? Decide first

Before buying animals, one question is worth settling: do you want to breed and build genetics, or produce beef? The answer changes which animals make sense – an in-calf cow gives you offspring immediately, a heifer is the longer-term investment. We advise on this free of charge, including after the purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Pricing, ordering & export

How much does a Wagyu breeding animal cost?

We quote breeding cattle individually per destination country, because veterinary certificates, quarantine and transport differ. You receive one all-in figure covering animals, documentation and transport.

For export we prepare quotes from 10 animals upwards. Within Austria, Germany and Switzerland there is no minimum.

Why is there a minimum of 10 animals for export?

Livestock export involves fixed costs per consignment: veterinary certificates, health testing, quarantine and a dedicated livestock transport. Below 10 animals those costs outweigh the value of the animals themselves.

Where can I buy Wagyu breeding cattle?

Directly from Wagyuhof Genetics in Lower Austria – all animals from our own breeding programme.

Can I inspect the animals before buying?

Genetics & quality

Are the animals free of genetic defects?

Yes. All animals are tested for the known Wagyu genetic defects and are free of them: CL16 (Claudin 16), B3 (Band 3), CHS, F11 (Factor XI) and IARS. DNA certificates are supplied.

What does Herd Book Section A mean?

Section A is the highest category in the Austrian Wagyu herd book: 100% Fullblood with complete descent across at least ten generations. Only purebred animals are registered there.

Which genetics are behind your animals?

Our animals descend from sires such as Homerun, Ayato, Q122 and Itofuku. All are 100% Japanese Black Fullblood with documented pedigree. Full certificates of descent are provided with the purchase.

What is the difference between a cow and a heifer?

A cow has already calved and can be sold in calf. She gives you offspring immediately and is a proven dam.

A heifer is a young female that has not yet calved – the longer-term investment with more breeding years ahead.

Getting started

Do you advise newcomers?

Yes, and free of charge. From selecting the right animals through husbandry and feeding to marketing – including after the purchase.

Cattle, embryos or semen – which makes more sense?

It depends on your goal:

  • Semen (min. 20 portions): lowest-cost entry via F1 crossing with existing cows
  • Embryos (min. 10): 100% Fullblood immediately, your own herd as recipients
  • Breeding cattle (min. 10 for export): immediate start with finished animals

We are happy to advise which route suits your operation.

Wagyu breeding cattle from Austria

The direct route into breeding. If you would rather not start with semen or embryos, finished animals are the answer: an in-calf cow gives you offspring immediately, a heifer is the long-term investment, a calf the lowest-cost entry. All animals come from our own breeding programme in Lower Austria.

Quality. Every animal is 100% Fullblood Japanese Black, registered in Herd Book Section A, DNA-verified and tested free of CL16, B3, CHS, F11 and IARS. Certificates of descent are included.

Genetics. Our animals descend from sires such as Homerun, Ayato, Q122 and Itofuku. We also offer Wagyu semen and Wagyu embryos.

Export and advice. Export quotes are prepared from 10 animals upwards, covering veterinary certificates, quarantine and transport in one figure. Advice on selection, husbandry and feeding is free and does not end with the purchase.
